PAVILION OF ALBANIAN NATIONAL RENAISSANCE
(From 30- 40s of the 19th century to 1912)
Albanian National Renaissance Pavilion is one of the most attractive areas of the National Historical Museum. It is located on the second floor of the museum building. Through different objects is presented the history and culture of the Albanians in this pavilion. The Renaissance Pavilion is one of the richest with original objects, documents, books, photographs, national flags, weapons, currency and other cultural objects. Most of the objects are unique to the history and culture of the Albanian nation. The objects displayed in the windows of the pavilion belong to the period from the mid – 19th century until 1912.
Among the important national historical objects that are on the display in this pavilion, is the collection of weapons made with silver filigrees material in the form of an eagle that is on the front part of the Pavilion. The set of exhibited weapons constitutes the main emblematic monument dedicated to one of the major events in the history of the Albanians “Albanian League” from 1878 to 1881. The idea of the art composition of the guns as an eagle belongs to Fisnik Sina.
A national worth object is the flag of “Desire” patriotic Society of the Albanian colony of Sofia, Bulgaria. This object is placed in this pavilion, to honor the contribution of the Albanian colonies abroad, which helped to develop the country and the Albanian nation. The most of Albanian societies in this period worked to develop language and Albanian schools and for the publication of books and newspapers in their mother tongue. This Association was founded on August 15, 1896.
Visitors have the opportunity to look closely the desk and the collection of books of Sami Frashëri (1825-1904), one of the most prominent ideologue of the Albanian national ideology. He was one of the most prominent Albanian personalities in the field of Philology, Turkish studies, journalism, translation, literature, politics and encyclopedia. His political pamphlet “Albania – What It Was, What It Is and What Will Become of It?” published in Bucharest in 1899, is one of the most important works of political thought and ideology of the 19th and 20th century among Albanians.
